San Jose Public Library wants to ensure community members that don’t have a library card can still apply for one through their new SJPL's eLibrary Card.

This new eLibrary Card will provide access to SJ Library’s online learning, electronic checkouts, streaming services, and downloads available through the San José Public Library.

Already have a regular library card? There's no need for an additional card. You can start using your card in the eLibrary right away. 

Who Is Eligible to Apply

  • All San Jose residents

How to Apply

  • Complete the existing adult online application.
  • Upon completion, customers will automatically receive their eLibrary Card Number. They will they be prompted to login to their account and setup a PIN.
  • The eLibrary Card will only be valid for 60 days, after registration date.
  • You may convert your eLibrary Card into a full access library card by visiting any San José library location, once locations re-open, and provide proof of residency and a picture ID before the card expires.

Library eCard

  • Apply for a Library eCard from home.  Library District residents gain an eCard instantly.

  • Fill out the online eCard Application now, if you are not inside a library.  If you are inside a library, please instead fill out the Full-Membership Card application, discussed in the above section.

  • Optionally, convert your Library eCard to a Full-Membership Library Card at the Accounts Desk, during a visit to the library.

  • An eCard gives you instant, full, free access to the Library's Online Library services, including eBooks, streaming movies, and more.

The Library eCard gives you access to our entire Online Library, available 24/7, including eBooks, audiobooks, downloadable movies, music, magazines, newspapers, international content, online learning, research and more. Completing the eCard application form now will provide you with free, instant access to a vast digital collection.  eCards are available to all ages.

Library eCards are available to those residing in the Santa Clara County Library District, which is the Library's Service Area.
