Public Library

San Jose Public Library wants to ensure community members that don’t have a library card can still apply for one through their new SJPL's eLibrary Card.

This new eLibrary Card will provide access to SJ Library’s online learning, electronic checkouts, streaming services, and downloads available through the San José Public Library.

Already have a regular library card? There's no need for an additional card. You can start using your card in the eLibrary right away. 

Who Is Eligible to Apply

  • All San Jose residents

How to Apply

  • Complete the existing adult online application.
  • Upon completion, customers will automatically receive their eLibrary Card Number. They will they be prompted to login to their account and setup a PIN.
  • The eLibrary Card will only be valid for 60 days, after registration date.
  • You may convert your eLibrary Card into a full access library card by visiting any San José library location, once locations re-open, and provide proof of residency and a picture ID before the card expires.
